In a signficant service improvement initiative, a booklet containing up to date protocols for in-patient cardiac surgery has been prepared and will be released on 11th November 2016.
The aim of this information booklet is to help all cardiologists and cardiology ward staff understand the referral process and appropriate management of patients undergoing in-patient cardiac surgery in Northern Ireland.
The overall time an in-patient waits for surgery can be reduced by careful optimisation of the patient prior to transfer with reference to the guidelines included and by good communication with the surgeon and cardiac surgery waiting list office (WLO).
The guidelines included will continuously be updated and the current versions of the individual protocols can be downloaded from the resources section of our website.
