A booklet containing up to date protocols for in-patient cardiac surgery was prepared and released on 11th November 2016. The aim of this information booklet is to help all cardiologists and cardiology ward staff understand the referral process and appropriate management of patients undergoing in-patient cardiac surgery in Northern Ireland.
There are several changes in the latest version of the booklet. Following an audit the indications for investigation of potential carotid artery disease pre-operatively have been revised and this will reduce the need for tests in some patients.
