The first in Implantation in UK and Ireland of a new minimally invasive “Acurate Neo” Transapical Aortic Valve was carried out in our unit by Mr Reuben Jeganathan. The device, made by Boston Scientific, was inserted through a small 5 cm incision in the 5th intercostal space of the left side side of the chest. This new technology allows surgeons to replace the aortic valve in patients who previously would have been to high risk for surgery. We are proud that Belfast surgeons are world leaders in introducing this new technology that brings significant benefits to patients.
